Your Business Protection Plan
Running a business means planning for growth, but it also requires preparing for the unexpected. Events like the sudden loss of a key employee, a partner’s illness, or urgent loan repayments can disrupt operations and create serious financial strain. A well-structured Business Protection Plan helps your company stay resilient during uncertain times by providing financial support and strategic clarity. It allows you to manage disruption, protect your team, and maintain long-term stability with confidence.
At Grosvenor, we help business owners identify and manage these risks with tailored, tax-efficient protection strategies. We offer Key Person Insurance to safeguard your business if a vital team member becomes critically ill or passes away, Shareholder Protection to ensure smooth ownership transitions, and Business Loan Cover to help repay debts if a key person can no longer contribute. Each solution is designed to reflect your company’s structure, goals, and values. With a proactive and personal approach backed by decades of experience, we prepare your business for whatever lies ahead.
We Can Include Cover For
Business Protection Through Key Person Insurance
Your business depends on people, and some are simply irreplaceable. Whether it’s a top-performing salesperson, a technical lead, or a visionary director, the loss of a key individual can have a serious financial impact.
Key Person Insurance provides a lump sum to your business if a key employee dies or suffers a critical illness. This benefit can help cover emergency operational costs, support the recruitment and training of a suitable replacement, and maintain business continuity during what can be a highly disruptive transition.
We work with you to assess the financial value of your key personnel and structure a policy that reflects their contribution to your business.
Business Protection for Shareholders & Partnerships
When a business owner passes away or becomes seriously ill, the future of the business, and its ownership can be thrown into uncertainty. Without a plan in place, shares may pass to family members with no involvement in the business, or worse, be sold externally.
Shareholder and Partnership Protection ensures that remaining owners have the funds to purchase the affected party’s share, keeping control of the business within the existing leadership.
Our solutions are:
- Tax-efficient: Structured to minimise tax liabilities
- Tailored: Designed around your business structure
- Comprehensive: Taking into consideration factors from both a legal and financial perspective
We help you put in place cross option agreements and trust structures which will facilitate the legal mechanism to potentially preserve Business Property Relief, where available.
Business Loan Protection
Many businesses rely on credit to fuel growth, fund expansion, or manage cash flow. However, if a key borrower such as a director or business owner were to pass away or suffer a critical illness, those financial obligations remain. Without a plan in place, the responsibility for repayment can fall heavily on the remaining partners or shareholders, potentially destabilising the business.
Business Loan Protection provides a lump sum to the business in the event of such a loss. This allows for the immediate repayment of outstanding debts and helps preserve the company’s financial stability. The protection applies to various liabilities such as overdrafts used for daily operations, commercial loans for equipment and mortgages secured against business premises may be included. Directors Loan Accounts can also be protected, which effectively represent funds invested into the business. These accounts often become repayable to the director’s estate upon death, creating a significant financial obligation that must be addressed promptly.
We work closely with you to evaluate your current liabilities and recommend a level of cover that aligns with your financial structure. Our goal is to ensure your business remains resilient, your credit arrangements are protected, and your leadership team can focus on continuity and growth rather than financial disruption.
Group Employee Benefit Schemes
Attracting and retaining top talent takes more than a competitive salary, today’s professionals value employers who invest in their wellbeing and long-term security. Group Employee Benefit Schemes enhance your company’s appeal and support your workforce in meaningful ways.
These schemes can:
- Boost loyalty and morale by showing genuine care for employee welfare
- Improve productivity by reducing stress and financial uncertainty
- Lower absenteeism through access to timely medical care and income protection
- Strengthen recruitment by offering a standout benefits package
Available benefits include:
- Death in Service – a tax-free lump sum for an employee’s family
- Income Protection – regular income during long-term illness or injury
- Critical Illness Cover – a lump sum upon diagnosis of a serious condition
- Private Medical Insurance – fast access to quality healthcare
Many plans also include Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), offering confidential support for personal and professional challenges.
Relevant Life Plans
Relevant Life Plans offer a highly tax-efficient way for businesses to provide death-in-service benefits to individual employees, including directors. These plans suit companies without a group scheme or those needing extra protection for key individuals. In the event of a claim the benefits are paid tax free through a Relevant Life Trust directly to nominated beneficiaries, the trust structure ensures that the policy proceeds are not included in the Deceased’s estate for the purposes of Inheritance Tax calculations.
Executive Income Protection
Your company can take out Executive Income Protection on your behalf if you’re an employee or Director. This policy provides financial support if you can’t work due to illness or injury. This type of policy can cover up to 80 % of your gross income, along with your employer’s National Insurance, subject to policy limits. When calculating your income, the insurer includes salary, overtime, bonuses, P11D benefits, and dividends, even spousal dividends where they would stop during your absence. If you claim, the insurer pays the benefit to your company, and your company will pay the benefit to you through PAYE.
Executive Income Protection can also include the costs of your employers’ pension payments during your absence. Since auto-enrolment requires all employers to contribute at least 3% to employee pensions, this benefit ensures your business can keep contributing even if you are unable to work due to accident or ill health.
It is important to note that individual personal protection may be a more suitable solution in some cases, we will discuss your options with you and carefully assess the most suitable solution to meet your needs.
